So, I haven't posted in quite a while, been almost overwhelmingly busy, but here's something I've been thinking about lately...
At my church and in my life, I am a role model to young girls. It's a massive responsibility that not everyone takes very seriously. I have to work on keeping it in my head that these girls are watching my every move and often try mimic me. I spend a lot of time with the kids in my church because I want them to know that they're important to me, because they truly are. I work in Sparks on Wednesdays and am in the nursery once each month, so I get a lot of time to just hang out with them and I love it.
When I'm in the nursery, I get to feel needed. There's nothing like being able to comfort a child and earn their trust. When you're feeling down and can get a true belly laugh out of a baby and you automatically feel so much better. Or when a three-month-old falls asleep sprawled out on your chest because you made them feel okay again after their mommies ditched them in the nursery. (teehee. Couldn't resist!) It's also really cool to me that I can create bonds with the kids when they're really young and it lasts and grows as they do.
As crazy as it is to think about, some of the kids I used to watch in the nursery are now in Sparks. I really enjoy working in Sparks because I get to watch the babies and toddlers I used to hold get excited about God and learning His word. At the same time, I get to help kids that I haven't known for as long learn about God as well! It's amazing! I am definitely thankful for the opportunity to work with these kids.
The kids help me be a better me. It blesses me so much to walk in and hear choruses of "Aubrianah!" and get attacked with hugs. They will never know how much those little things mean to me! If I'm having a bad day, little smiling faces and bear hugs are sure to be awaiting me and it is so appreciated. The best part is, they don't do it because I'm having a bad day, they do it because they want to.
Because they mean so much to me, I work hard at being the best role model I can be. I want those kids to still be excited to see me when they're fifty! If I'm having a bad day, I snap out of it for them. I want to be someone that they want to be like and someone that their parents want them to look up to. I want to be another strong Christian example for them in this crazy, messed up world. I will work hard, show off the joy that God has given me in hard times, and always be there for them, even if they mess up.
Also, THANK YOU to all of their parents for having such awesome children and for letting me hang out with them! If it weren't for having some of you as my role models when I was young and even now, I might not be so okay with being watched like a hawk! =)

We are all blessed to have such a wonderful role model work with the church children. Thanks for your willing and helpful attitude - you're a good role model to us older ones as well who sometimes grumble a bit about working with the little ones.
ReplyDeleteThanks Mrs. Laura! =)
