How I Keep Myself Upright

So, I haven't posted in quite a while, been almost overwhelmingly busy, but here's something I've been thinking about lately... At my church and in my life, I am a role model to young girls. It's a massive responsibility that not everyone takes very seriously. I have to work on keeping it in my head that these girls are watching my every move and often try mimic me. I spend a lot of time with the kids in my church because I want them to know that they're important to me, because they truly are. I work in Sparks on Wednesdays and am in the nursery once each month, so I get a lot of time to just hang out with them and I love it. When I'm in the nursery, I get to feel needed. Unshakable Faith

Okay, I'm about to be very opinionated and honest... When I was little, I was bullied by a peer. He called me trailer-trash, was constantly telling me that I was a spoiled brat, once called me a myriad of horrible names, and once pushed me out of a friends' van and onto gravel because he wanted in. This continued in varying forms from age six until around twelve or thirteen. I have very low self-esteem and next to no confidence. I, of course, don't blame this entirely on that boy, but I do believe that it played a strong hand. Girls at point in their lives are especially vulnerable. I Guess Forever isn't Very Long

You know how when you're little, and you spend every moment possible with your "BFF"? You are completely incapable of imagining your life minus them. You imagine that in the future, you and that best friend will still be doing everything together. So you buy those classy "best" and "friends" necklaces and wear them all of the time. You beg for sleepovers, play truth or dare even though you very well know that neither of you will pick dare. You learn everything about each other and share every pointless detail of your lives. You wholeheartedly believe in the "forever" that comes after the "best friends". I, of course, was not exempt from this. I had a whole handful of those necklaces, countless games of "truth or truth", and plenty begging for sleepover experience. I remember thinking that nothing would ever change. It always does, though.
